Cookie Policy
Every cookie and storage item this site sets, and why.
This page lists every cookie and browser storage item the Trace site sets, what each one is for, and how long it lasts.
No tracking or advertising cookies
Trace does not use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies. Everything below is needed for the site to work or to remember your choices.
Necessary cookies
These keep you signed in and keep forms secure. The site can't work without them, so they can't be switched off.
| Name | Purpose | Lasts |
|---|---|---|
session | Signs you in for this visit, protects forms against cross-site request forgery, and carries one-off messages such as "Signed out". | Until you close the browser |
remember_token | Keeps you signed in between visits. Set only when you sign in, removed when you sign out. | 365 days |
trace_consent | Remembers your answer to the cookie banner, so it isn't shown again. | 1 year |
Browser storage
| Name | Purpose | Lasts |
|---|---|---|
trace:booted | Session storage, not a cookie. Remembers that you've seen the loading animation, so it plays once per visit. | Until you close the tab |
Other sites
When you sign in with Google or Discord, or pay through Stripe, you're on their sites, and they set their own cookies under their own policies. Trace doesn't control those cookies or read them.
Your choice
On your first visit, a banner offers Accept all or Necessary only. Both choices set exactly the same cookies, because Trace has no optional ones. The one difference: with Accept all, each page reports how long it was open and how far you scrolled when you leave it. That uses no cookie and stores nothing on your device. Visit counting itself also uses no cookie; the Privacy Policy explains it.
You can also delete or block cookies in your browser settings. Blocking necessary cookies will stop sign-in from working.
